Blink-182 postpones world tour following Travis Barker's gruesome finger injury

Scheduled to kick off this month, the band's much-anticipated reunion tour is now postponed until May.

Christian Holub is a writer covering comics and other geeky pop culture. He's still mad about 'Firefly' getting canceled.

blink 182 tour cancelled

Fans of pop-punk music were delighted last fall when Blink-182 announced they were reuniting their original lineup ( Mark Hoppus , Travis Barker , and Tom DeLonge ) for a new album and a world tour. But preparation for that tour, which was originally set to kick off later this month, has already taken a toll on Barker. The drummer revealed on Instagram that he's getting surgery after damaging his hand in rehearsal. As a result, the beginning of the tour will be postponed.

Barker's Instagram post contains gruesome photos of his injured finger, as well as video footage of a medical worker massaging it and asking the drummer, "Do you feel pain?"

"I mean yeah, it's painful," Barker responds in the video.

Barker injured the finger twice over the course of February. On Feb. 8, he posted about "smashing" his finger so hard it became dislocated and resulted in torn ligaments. Less than two weeks later, he revealed in an Instagram story that he injured the same hand "again."

Barker's wife, Kourtney Kardashian Barker , was supportive on Instagram, sharing prayer hands and heart emojis in the comments.

Barker's hand injuries come less than a year after he suffered a bout of "life-threatening pancreatitis" last summer. That health scare was resolved after "intensive treatment" at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.

Blink-182's reunion tour will now kick off in St. Paul on May 4. The canceled March and April dates in Mexico and Latin America will be rescheduled for next year. Check out the band's website for an updated tour itinerary .

Travis Barker’s Finger Is Now the Enema of Blink-182 Fans

Portrait of Jason P. Frank

Looks like the Chainsmokers and Halsey will have to put their plans to get closer to their toxic ex at a Blink-182 concert on hold for a bit. The planned Blink-182 reunion tour, with the original lineup of Mark Hoppus, Travis Barker, and Tom DeLonge, has been postponed. The culprit is Barker’s finger, which he injured twice in rehearsals last month. The drummer tweeted on March 3 that he had finger surgery and will “heal and come back when I am 100%.” He also took to Instagram to post some photographic proof, including a picture of his hand wrapped in a cast and a graphic picture of his finger mid-surgery. “It was a hard decision to make but ultimately I couldn’t continue to play the drums without it,” Barker wrote in the caption. “It was inevitable that my finger would have dislocated again without fixing the torn ligament surgically. So grateful for Dr. Shin and that my surgery was a success so that I can keep doing what I love and see you guys on tour soon🥁.”

Barker previously told fans on February 8 that he “was playing the drums at rehearsals yesterday and I smashed my finger so hard I dislocated it and tore the ligaments.” Per TMZ, he posted a photo of his injured ring finger on his Instagram Story on February 21, with a simple caption: “Again.” Finally, on February 28, he posted a video of a doctor working with him on his finger on Instagram with the caption, “Surgery tomorrow 🤞.”

Blink-182’s tour, which was slated to commence later in March, will actually start on May 4 in St. Paul, according to the band’s website . The dates that have been canceled in Mexico and Latin America will be rescheduled for a later date. “South America I love you and I’m so sorry I can’t make these shows,” Barker tweeted on March 3. You know, when we think of the phrase, “He works with his hands,” successful musicians aren’t the first people that come to mind, but here is Travis Barker, proving us wrong.

Travis Barker abruptly exits Blink-182 tour for 'urgent family matter'

Portrait of David Oliver

Travis Barker has abruptly stepped way from touring with Blink-182, the band announced Friday.

"Due to an urgent family matter, Travis has had to return home to the States," according to the band's official X (the website formerly known as Twitter) account. "The Glasgow, Belfast, and Dublin shows are being postponed. More information in regards to his return to Europe and rescheduled dates will be provided as soon as available."

The Blink-182 drummer is currently expecting his first child with wife Kourtney Kardashian ; each has children of their own from previous relationships.

Photographs emerged over the weekend of Barker with Kardashian, who still appears to be pregnant. TMZ and Page Six said the images were taken Saturday and show the couple leaving a Los Angeles-area hospital.

USA TODAY has reached out to Barker's representative for more information.

Kardashian   held up a sign in the crowd at a Los Angeles tour stop  for the band in June, sharing the message that she's expecting. "Travis, I'm pregnant," the sign read in all caps, as Kardashian jumped up and down, smiling and laughing.

Both Kardashian and Barker shared video footage of the emotional moment to their Instagram accounts after the announcement.

On Father's Day, Kardashian shared a series of photos showing off her baby bump.

In one photo, Kardashian is sitting on Barker's lap as the two look lovingly at each other. In another, he's kissing her belly.

"Overwhelmed with gratitude and joy for God’s blessing and plan,"  Kardashian captioned the photos .

The two wed in 2022 at an Italian ceremony , draped in Dolce & Gabbana for the Portofino, Italy, nuptials. Barker popped the question in October 2021, eight months after they made their relationship  Instagram  official days after Valentine's Day.

The Italian wedding came about a month after the rocker and the reality star had a wedding ceremony in Las Vegas, after Barker's 2022  Grammys  performance.

Kardashian shares kids Mason, 13, Penelope, 11, and Reign, 8, with ex Scott Disick. Barker shares kids Landon, 19, and Alabama, 17, with ex Shanna Moakler (Barker was also stepfather to Moakler's daughter with Oscar De la Hoya, Atiana).

Blink-182 Postpones European Tour Dates as Travis Barker Rushes Home for 'Urgent Family Matter'

The band, set to perform in Scotland on Friday and Saturday, announced on Instagram that Barker had to return home to the United States

blink 182 tour cancelled

Blink-182 is postponing their European tour dates after drummer Travis Barker had to rush home for an “urgent family matter.”

The band shared the news on their Instagram account Friday morning, writing in a Story, "Due to an urgent family matter, Travis has had to return home to the States. The Glasgow, Belfast, and Dublin shows are being postponed. More information in regards to his return to Europe and rescheduled dates will be provided as soon as available."

It’s not clear what Barker, 47, has had to return home for. PEOPLE has reached out for comment.

The "All the Small Things" rockers were due to take to the stage at the OVO Hydro in Glasgow, Scotland on Friday and Saturday, before traveling to Belfast and Dublin for further stops on their tour.

Hours before the news was announced, Barker shared a series of snaps on his Instagram Story of him visiting a prayer room. After posting a picture outside the room, Barker then shared two photos inside the space, one of a stained-glass window and another of a blue banner reading, “Together We Pray.”

On Thursday, he had also posted a shot of the band’s tour bus and covered up the license plate with the words, “DON’T TRUST ANYONE.”

Barker is currently expecting a baby boy with his wife Kourtney Kardashian .

The couple announced their pregnancy news during the first Los Angeles stop of Blink-182’s tour.

While in the audience of the June 16 show, Kardashian, 44, held up a handwritten black and white sign reading, “Travis I’m Pregnant” as a camera zoomed in on her in the crowd.

Barker and Kardashian shared a video of the moment on their Instagram accounts, and one of Barker’s bandmates could heard saying, "Someone's having a baby!"

The inspiration for the sign came from the band’s music video for their 1999 track “All The Small Things” which features a fan holding up a yellow and black sign that also reads, “Travis I’m Pregnant.”

And just weeks later the pair revealed the news that they're expecting a baby boy during a sex reveal party attended by their family and friends.

The bash had a music tour theme and guests were even given tour passes reading, "Baby Barker World Tour with Special Guest Kravis. All Access.”

Blink-182 have cancelled their upcoming tour dates due to drummer Travis Barker’s ongoing medical issues.

The band were previously forced to postpone their Las Vegas residency earlier this year after the drummer was diagnosed with blood clots in his arms.

In a statement posted to Twitter, the group confirmed they had to cancel their “fall mini tour”, which was due to begin at Bluestem Amphitheatre in Moorehead, Minnesota on September 12. “Medical issues have sidelined Travis per doctors’ orders,” they said. “Trav’s medical team anticipated that he would be well enough by fall to tour but after recent checkups they were not able to clear him in time for the scheduled run of date.”

Barker added his own message to fans, writing: “The past few months have just sucked as I have been sidelined just waiting for my doctors to clear me so I could get back on the road and perform with my band.

“Unfortunately, the risks associated with drumming are still too great. I am doing everything I need to do so I can get back on the road as soon as possible. I want to thank my fans, family, friends, and bandmates for all the love and support.”

Blink-182 are currently still planning to begin their Las Vegas residency at Pearl Theatre on October 26. They will perform eight shows at the venue in total, running until November 17.

The affected dates are as follows:

Moorehead, Bluestem Amphitheatre (September 12) Chicago, Riot Fest (14) Columbus, Express Live (15) Grand Rapids, 20 Monroe Live (17) Windsor, The Colosseum at Caesars Windsor (18) Uncasville, Mohegan Sun Arena (20) Atlantic City, Hard Rock (21) Cedar Rapids, US Cellular Center (24) Council Bluffs, Harrah’s Council Bluffs at Stir Cove (25)

In July, Barker was involved in a car accident . A school bus collided with his car while he was driving in Calabasas, California. His 14-year-old son was reportedly in the vehicle at the time.

Earlier this summer, the drummer shared a video update on his health with the band’s fans. “It’s been the longest 4 weeks without playing drums,” he said in the caption. “I played through two shows in Vegas with infection and blood clots before I was able to get a clear diagnosis from a doctor. Here’s an update on my road to recovery.”

Barker, 47, is married to his third wife, Kourtney Kardashian, 44. The two are expecting their first child together. Kardashian made the surprise announcement in June during a Blink-182 concert .

Her announcement came around six months after she publicly shared that she had stopped in vitro fertilisation ( IVF ) treatments because it had taken “a toll” on her physical and mental health.

The Independent has contacted Barker and Kardashian’s representatives for comment.

Blink-182 Instagram Story

The new baby will be Barker’s third child; he shares two children, Landon, 19 and Alabama, 17, with his ex-wife Shanna Moakler, with whom he was married from 2004 to 2008.

Kardashian, meanwhile, shares three children, Mason, 13, Penelope, 12, and Reign, 10, with her ex-boyfriend Scott Disick, with whom she dated for nine years.

The “All the Small Things” band, who are currently on a 2023-2024 world tour, finished their North American leg on 16 July in Nashville, Tennesee.

Blink-182’s reunion tour marks the first time the original trio – consisting of Barker, guitarist Tom DeLonge and vocalist Mark Hoppos – have performed together since 2015 when DeLonge left the band to focus on his lifelong extraterrestrial passion .

Blink-182 Cancel Tour, Travis Barker Unable to Receive Medical Clearance

Blink-182 have canceled their fall tour dates following a medical diagnosis that drummer Travis Barker remains unable to perform. He was diagnosed earlier this summer with blood clots in his arms , which led to the band canceling the remainder of their Las Vegas residency.

“The past few months have just sucked as I have been sidelined just waiting for my doctors to clear me so I could get back on the road and perform with my band," said Barker in a statement. "Unfortunately, the risks associated with drumming are still too great. I am doing everything I need to do so I can get back on the road as soon as possible. I want to thank my fans, family, friends, and bandmates for all the love and support.”

Blink were scheduled to perform a fall mini-tour around their headlining slot at this year's Riot Fest Chicago. They also canceled their appearance at Surf Ranch Pros,  World Surf League  that was scheduled for Sept. 8. Social Distortion have been announced as their replacement. Their statement also revealed that they plan on returning to Riot Fest in 2019 to headline their 15-year anniversary celebration.

You can read their full statement below.

It is with a heavy heart to report that blink must cancel its fall mini-tour which was set to kick off September 12th on their way to headline Riot Fest in Chicago. Medical issues have sidelined Travis per doctors’ orders. Trav’s medical team anticipated that he would be well enough by fall to tour but after recent checkups, they were not able to clear him in time for the scheduled run of dates. From Travis: “The past few months have just sucked as I have been sidelined just waiting for my doctors to clear me so I could get back on the road and perform with my band. Unfortunately, the risks associated with drumming are still too great. I am doing everything I need to do so I can get back on the road as soon as possible. I want to thank my fans, family, friends, and bandmates for all the love and support.” Tickets for the canceled headline shows can be refunded at point of purchase. Unfortunately, we will also be canceling The Surf Ranch Pros,  World Surf League  kicking off Saturday, September 8th. Fortunately, Southern California punk rock icons Social Distortion will take over as the show's headliners. With us now having to miss one of our favorite festivals, our friends in Weezer, Run the Jewels, and Taking Back Sunday have now come on board as performers. We plan to be back headlining  Riot Fest  in 2019 in celebration of the Festival’s 15th anniversary. Thank you for your continued support and check  blink182.com  for updates.

The band were meant to play at Ovo Hydro tonight, Friday September 1, and tomorrow, before moving on to Belfast’s SSE Arena on Monday and Dublin’s 3Arena on Tuesday.

It has yet to be confirmed whether they will play in Belgium next Friday.

Fans were of course disappointed at the news, though many shared messages of support and well-wishes.

‘Get everyone healthy and happy and we will see you soon !’ one wrote, while another said: ‘My thoughts are with @travisbarker and his family.’

Due to an urgent family matter, Travis has had to return home to the States. The Glasgow, Belfast, and Dublin shows are being postponed. More information in regards to his return to Europe and rescheduled dates will be provided as soon as available. — blink-182 (@blink182) September 1, 2023

One person fumed: ‘Already had to spend an extra £200 for this weekend for a hotel and train due to the strikes, now this. Good weekend.’

But another said: ‘Remember everyone, they’re people too. Chill out with the hate.’

‘Damn it but hope Travis and that are fine,’ someone else said.

Kourtney, who shares three children with ex Scott Disick, announced her pregnancy to the world at a Blink-182 concert in a pretty epic way earlier this year.

Midway through the gig, she held a handmade sign which read: ‘Travis I’m pregnant.’

Fans roared as Travis rushed off stage to hug and kiss his smiling wife.

The sweet moment appeared to be a nod to the band’s All The Small Things music video, in which a fan held up the same sign.

Prior to the happy news, Kourtney had opened up about her attempts to  conceive with the  musician, revealing she was taking a break from IVF as treatment gave her ‘depression’.

Kourtney Kardashian and Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker

This comes after Travis thanked his wife for ‘healing’ him in a sweet post, after he was involved in a horrific plane crash in 2008 that left four dead.

Marking the 30th time he’s flown since the deadly crash , the rocker, who was one of two survivors, said: ‘Just flew for the 30th time since my plane crash.’

Poosh founder Kourtney, 44, has made it possible for the drummer to fly again and perform around the world, after years of being petrified to step foot on an aircraft.

He added: ‘Wouldn’t be able to tour or enjoy life again the way I do without the healing love of my amazing wife. I love you @kourtneykardash.’

Travis Barker and Kourtney Kardashian

Although this is the pair’s first child together, the tot will be  Kourtney’s fourth child  after Mason, 13, Penelope, 10, and Reign, eight.

For Travis, this is also his fourth child, joining his kids Landon, 19, and Alabama, 17, as well as his stepdaughter from a previous relationship, Atiana, 24.

The couple went public with their relationship at the beginning of 2020 before going pretty PDA-tastic on social media.

They married  in a secret wedding ceremony in Las Vegas last year , before making it official in a ceremony in Italy two months later.

Metro.co.uk has approached Kourtney’s reps for comment.

WAIT FOR IT !!!........... LIL WAYNE cancelled just hours before the show (rolling my eyes) so needless to say happy we showed up at 9pm because instead of lil wayne the fans were entertained by music mashups of rock and rap (crappy mix ups by the way) and music by the backstreet boys or n sync not sure which boy band it was but i was super annoyed when i heard the near sold out crowd singing along of "i want it that way" really crappy song but all these idiots were singing along like it was 6th grade but on to the positive blink 182 put on a great set for a whole 60 minutes yep 1 hour started at 9:30 was done by 10:30 great set pyro, smoke, cool video stage set up NO TOM DELONGE some new guy not his fault he played great but it wasnt teb same he didnt really sound like TOM so it was like blink 182 karaoke for some of the songs and the short set time I mean shit lil wayne doesnt show these guys could have saved the day and played longer but in typical rock star fashion they charged full price for tickets delivered half of a show and a short set disapointed much ? YEAH I WAS hate to say it but I mean it wasnt a 20 dollar ticket here tickets were not cheap but the amount of entertainment vs the amount paid for the ticket was not EQUAL felt pretty ripped off as a whole save your money this go round NOT WORTH THE CASH plus we drove 4 hours to go to this show so a few hundred dollars later we got and hour of a headliner entertainment hell KISS are 70 years old and played for 2 and a half hours the tickets were pricey but hell they were showmen and lots of fire, pyro, smoke, fireworks, ect stunts elevating risers ect so you tell me if its worth it to go see 40 year old entitled punks vs 70 year old vets who are doing a cash grab no doubt but are still delivering an experirience

Show exceeded expectations and was THRILLED we didn't have to listen to Lil Wayne - bonus. Thanks to St. Louis for helping to move him on his way to the next venue. Loved hearing Enema of the State in its entirety. Wish they had included Always but the other added songs were great as well. I thought Matt sounded great and thoroughly enjoyed a couple of the songs from California and NINE. Sad no encore but had a total blast singing along and dancing. Super charged stage show and Travis' drum solo was amazing but never long enough for me! (I'm sure plenty long for him - what a work out!) Neck Deep also put on a great performance. They are a GREAT opening act for Bink. Thanks for the show - and long lasting memories.

Blink 182 has been my favorite band as a kid back in ‘96 when I first heard of them and will always be. I finally got to see them live for the first tine ever in 2016, 20 years later because they came close to my hometown in Greenville, SC. Then about 3 months later to my actual hometown in Charleston, SC. I was close to the middle up front and had the time of my life. I thank the whole band for making one person’s dream come true just to see you live. I’ve always wanted to meet Mark and Travis!! I was so like it’s cool when Mark tried to throw me a pick but it landed short and he apologized and he Ent on with the show. But my heart filled up with joy when, in my opinion, the greatest drummer in the whole universe, Travis Barker!!!!, acknowledged me when I gave him a thumbs up. Wish I could meet and talk to then!! A dream for a lifetime. Blink 182 you will always be number 1 to me and hold a special place in my heart as you do to millions of fans!! Love you all and can’t wait for the bext album!! Including Mark’s new band aka The Side Piece. Mark if you ever read this’ please don’t take offense to the comment. Blink 4 Life!! Peace...

Blink-182 Can’t Stop Touring: Band Details Summer 2024 Shows

  • By Jon Blistein

Jon Blistein

Blink-182 will keep the big reunion party going into next year, announcing another massive North American tour for summer 2024.

The run will kick off June 20 at the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida, with dates scheduled through Aug. 15 at the Rogers Centre in Toronto. Blink-182 will primarily play arenas during the run, though there will be a few special stadium gigs in Los Angeles, New York, Boston, Toronto, and the band’s hometown of San Diego. Pierce the Veil will provide support throughout the tour, while Alexisonfire will join the bill just for the final gig in Toronto.

Tickets for all shows will go on sale Oct. 27 at 10 a.m. local time. Full info is available on Blink-182’s website .

Along with the reunion tour, Blink-182 released a new album, One More Time , last Friday, Oct. 20. The LP marks the first from Hoppus, DeLonge, and Barker since 2011’s Neighborhoods . After DeLonge left the group in 2015, he was replaced by Alkaline Trio’s Matt Skiba, who appeared on two albums, 2016’s California and 2019’s Nine .

In a recent interview with Zane Lowe , Hoppus and DeLonge opened up about their acrimonious 2015 splits with both admitting they weren’t sure they’d ever play together again. That changed after Hoppus was diagnosed with cancer in 2021 — a traumatic but clarifying event not unlike the 2008 plane crash that nearly killed Barker.

YEAR IN REVIEW: Blink tour nationwide and begin to headline their own bills, leading to a spot on the Warped Tour. They also venture outside North America for the first time, playing shows in the United Kingdom and Japan. In November, they sign to MCA, a major label, who will co-distribute their next album, Dude Ranch , which they begin recording in December.

After a two-month delay, They Came to Conquer Uranus is released. The EP with Swindle, titled Lemmings / Going Nowhere , is set for February, but the band mocks this projection in their newsletter : "look for it this summer!" According to Larry Munroe, who posted tour dates for the band on alt.punk, the split EP did indeed see release that month.

According to Rob Perelman , he may have received the split EP with Swindle beginning on 1/23/1996, which indicates that those records were pressed and completed around that time (perhaps they were mailed out and sold beginning in February?)

Tom and Mark are interviewed in Thrasher ; topics include their trip to Alaska, girlfriends.

11/1996 (undated):

The band signs with MCA, making the shift from independent labels to the majors. Tom and Mark, in a classic interview with Victory Records from that time , deems it an issue of distribution and creative control.

In Shooman’s biography, Raynor describes his dismay at turning down the opportunity to sign to Epitaph. He marks this as the point at which he began to feel half-invested in the band.

At a signing party at the Hotel del Coronado in San Diego, Scott consumes a bit too much alcohol and jumps from a balcony. He's in crutches for much of the recording of Dude Ranch . This is the inspiration for the "stand out on the ledge" lyric in "Man Overboard".

11/11/1996: The band performs at the Stone Pony in Ashbury Park, New Jersey. Other bands included 7 Seconds, Unwritten Law and Sprung Monkey.

11/21/1996: The band releases "Wasting Time" as a Australia-only single that doubles as an Australian tour EP. It contains rough demo versions of "Lemmings" and "Enthused". The date for this release is based on this Amazon listing , which may or may not be totally correct.

Undated:  The band performs at the Shadow Lounge in Ottawa, Canada. A review of the show was posted in this thread in 2004 . This show perhaps took place in August, as the band's only Canadian date that year occurred on 8/25.

A rough demo version of "Enthused" appears on the compilation Punk... It's All About The Orchis Factor .

Cheshire Cat sees release on vinyl for the first time in the U.S., while it gains overseas distribution from Japanese label Toy's Factory.

The band records demos for Dude Ranch with Vandals guitarist Warren Fitzgerald. Two have seen official release: "Enthused" on the "Wasting Time" single, and "Lemmings" on the Lemmings / Going Nowhere split. A demo iteration of " Josie " soundtracks Drifting , a surf film by Taylor Steele.  A short clip of a third demo, for "Apple Shampoo", surfaced on YouTube in 2011.

The band makes an "oral agreement" with Kung-Fu Records (run by Vandals members Joe Escalante and Warren Fitzgerald) to re-release Buddha in the near future. An anonymous online post in 2013 alleges that the band did not properly compensate Pat Secor for his work on the original demo. Secor had been trying to get the band to put Buddha on CD, it says, but they declined to discuss it. When Secor attempted to sell copies of Buddha without paying royalties, it alleges the band got Escalante, who is also a lawyer, to stop it. Then they let Escalante's label, Kung-Fu, release the album.

The band performs at the 513 in Atlanta, Georgia. Reddit user Ricky_Rollin about this show : "I love sharing the story for anybody who is willing to listen, but there used to be a very small ghetto punk rock club in Atlanta called the 513 literally in the middle of a ghetto. I first saw blink-182 open for Bigwig and that's when I met Scott for the first time. I let him know  I really liked the set and I bought a cassette tape called Flyswatter off of him for five dollars (unsure if that's 1996, waiting for a confirmation on this show) Reddit
